Of course, frequent sore throat or tonsillitis can also point to related physical problems including post nasal drip, chronic sinusitis, allergies, eustachean tube drainage or even throat cancer so, once a spiritual imbalance manifests as a physical imbalance, it is important to see your chosen healthcare professional.
Before manifesting as physical imbalance, a throat chakra imbalance can be sensed as an unexplained tightness in the throat, a feeling of restriction. It can also manifest in our communication struggles.
Anyone with major communication issues, whether those are expressing thru inappropriate expression (anger, rage, bitterness, etc.) or lack of expression (shutting down what we want to say for fear of being judged, rejected, or hurt), should do some work around clearing the throat chakra.
How do we clear the throat chakra?
Toning is an excellent cleanser and expansion tool for clearing throat chakra blockages. One may use a toning tape and allow the vibrations from that tape to adjust our chakras.An even more powerful way of toning is to use your own voice. The way I do it is to simply start making tones thru a slightly opened mouth, after doing some deep breathing for a little while to calm myself and reach a more meditative state.
As I do these tones, I experiment with directing them up or down in pitch and "intend" them toward the chakra that feels congested, in this case that would be the throat.
Tapes designed to lead into a meditative space, such as hypnosis, binaural beat, or subliminal tapes can be helpful in guiding the mind toward the energetic position that would naturally help to clear the chakras.
Of course, seeing an energetic healer is helpful in clearing energetic blockages as well. My most significant criteria for any healer I choose to work with is that I feel safe with them. I may have fear around whatever it is I need to heal but I feel safe with the healer or I don't work with them.

What is the spiritual significance of a sore throat?
The throat chakra is our energy center for communication. Whenever we have congestion and pain in the throat, regardless of what health challenge the body chooses as the vehicle for getting the alarm of imbalance to us, it suggests that we are either not being truthful in communications, not being clear, speaking when we would better be served by silence, or not speaking when we need to speak. Because so much of my own life involves communication,I have found myself at various times in my life, having throat problems, sore throats, eustachean tube drainage, etc. During those times, I was almost always in a transition period, spiritually speaking. In other words, it was time for me to let go of an old level of communcation to let a higher level come in and my ego was struggling with change, and movement outside my spiritual comfort zone.
Treating Sore Throat and Tonsillitis
If you have a sore throat that is caused by viral infection like colds or flu, typical selfcare treatments usually involve OTC (over the counter) medicines like pain killers and lozenges to suck until the infection clears.
If further care is needed, as it often is in cases of strep throat and tonsillitis, you usually end up taking antibiotics. While antibiotics can quickly clear the infection within a couple of days, regular use can weaken the immune system and result in recurring infections.
Treating the immediate discomfort of a sore throat is important of course but the more pressing reason to treat strep throat and tonsillitis quickly and effectively is that both conditions can lead to further infections elsewhere in the body. However, it is also important to know that antibiotics and OTC remedies are not the only options for treating these conditions.

What my Grandma did: Whenever we had sore throats as children, my Grandma would heat some water, add a bunch of table salt and have us gargle with it. One of the most simple clogged throat remedies I know about, the old salt water gargle definitely eased the pain and seemed to speed healing. I've also gargled with tea tree oil with great results but it tastes nasty! And finally, a little oregano oil that has been diluted with olive oil (very important to dilute or it burns) and rubbed on the throat at night works wonders for me.
