The most important thing I can say to you about detoxification and internal cleansing is that it is NOT a quick fix for a bad lifestlye. The body detox information presented here is, at best, a temporary measure for better health.
As a wellness counselor of many years, and someone who practices what I preach, I have come to respect the healing effect of a good detox.
Detoxing the body helps, goodness yes, but, the real key to eliminatory health lies in a consistently maintained healthy diet, consistently practiced moderate exercise, vigilant attention to stress reduction and adequate intake of pure water.
I encourage you to pursue health through positive lifestyle changes, as well as through detoxification programs.
Even the best detox program cannot replace healthy eating and living.
Give yourself the precious gift of self-love and your internal cleanse experience will be a life-affirming choice. Detox to feel better about yourself and your life and you wil find it reinforces healthy decisions in other areas of your life.
On the other hand, if you turn to internal cleansing as a quick fix for a chronic problem or while continuing a lifestyle that does not support healthy diet and elimination, the results will be be temporary.
The choice is yours.
Learn how to detox and learn how to live healthy. Now, that's a winning combination!
Cautions when Detoxing:
As much as I respect the cleansing power of a good detox, I also recognize the need for some general cautions to insure detoxing occurs safely and effectively.
Anyone with any known kidney or liver concerns should not detox without clearing it with their doctor first and this is most important when doing any type of chelating cleanse, such as most that are aimed at cleaning out heavy metals. Some ingredients in cleanse programs may tax the kidneys or an already compromised liver.
Those with colon problems including IBS, diverticulitis, Crohn's or colon cancer must check with their doctor and may want to avoid cleanses with cathartic herbs like senna.
If you are on medications of any kind, check with your doctor before doing a cleanse. If the doctor approves, then be sure to take any medications at least two hours before taking a chelating cleanse product and allow 2 hours before meds after taking it, to avoid chelating out the medication.
In addition, I caution anyone who has a compromised immune system or who is recovering from debilitating illness to carefully consider how fast and how drastic a detox is safe for them. I personally always feel better after a full body detox, if I've honored my body's pace and done the detox correctly.
After cleansing, I typically experience improved elimination patterns, an increase in energy, better looking skin and hair, and better sleep.
If I wait too long between cleanses and let my body get overly toxic, I sometimes experience discomfort in the form of bloating, gas, flu-like symptoms and fatique, for the first few days of a cleanse.
I also have a harder time with detoxing if I have relapsed into unhealthy eating patterns (fast foods and chips are my comfort food choices), don't get good sleep or don't deal with stressful situations in a timely manner, emotionally.
Due to the high level of junk in the food we eat, the high level of pollution in the air we breathe and the high level of toxic material in most of our drinking water, detoxing on a regular basis is a no-brainer but deciding how to detox and what cleanse program to use can be a challenge.
The articles and faq's on this page address the cleansing process process, how to detox the body safely and get healthy through detoxing, how to choose the best detox program and what to expect when doing a cleanse.
Internal Cleansing
is not a cure-all:
Something I stress repeatedly is that detoxing, apart from making the lifestyle changes that may be needed to support a healthier eliminatory system, is not going to
give anyone the life-affirming benefits that can be available through internal cleansing on a regular basis. If you are serious about getting healthier through detoxing the body, learn to practice wellness on a daily basis in your daily life, for optimal results.
If you have a health challenge and are hoping detoxing will help the body address it, be sure you also look at other ways you may be able to assist your body in healing itself instead of expecting to get healthy through detoxing alone.

Detoxing Disclaimer: These health education articles on detoxification are not a replacement for any needed medical attention for colon problems. If you have diverticulitis, in most cases, a cleanse is contraindicated so check with your doctor first. Internal cleansing releases toxins and waste, sometimes quite rapidly. Do not undergo a detox diet, program or internal cleanse unless you understand that a temporary healing crisis can result.
