The Importance of Maintenance Cleansing - While a full body detox is wonderful and helps the body stay healthy, regular, periodic detoxing is even better. I do periodic detoxing at any time I feel I've been under a lot of stress or when I have not been behaving myself with regard to what I eat.

To maintain healthy bowel movements and eliminatory health, we need to have a regular colon health maintenance regimen and not just detox when it gets so bad we can't stand it.

Regular detoxing is necessary for most of us because of pollutants in our air, the food we eat and the water we drink.

Maintenance cleansing is also necessary for most of us unhealthy dietary and lifestyle habits we may still cling to even as we strive to live a more healthy life - junk foods, white flour products, red meat, fried foods, white, refined sugar, diet drinks, alcoholic beverages and / or cigarettes.

I always feel better after cleansing my colon and I usually do a maintenance cleanse about twice a year. After a cleanse, I notice more regular elimination patterns, an increase in energy, better looking skin and hair, and better sleep.

If I wait too long between cleanses and let my body get overly toxic, I sometimes experience discomfort in the form of bloating, gas, flu-like symptoms and fatique, for the first few days of a cleanse.

Important change in my own colon health regimen:
After a terrible bout with chronic constipation, my search for natural constipation remedies led me to a product called Dr. Miller's Holy Tea. It is, quite simply, best remedy for constipation I've ever tried.

As an herbalist, I was not overly impressed with the ingredients in this tea at first glance. They are all good herbs for cleansing and I'm certainly familiar with all of them (with the exception of persimmon leaves which may be the vital difference) but I have to say there is a definite synergy in having them all together in this tea, and perhaps there is an herb to herb ratio that also makes a difference. Whatever the reason, it works!
