Please Note: If your pediatrician has prescribed either sedatives or antispasmodics to treat colic in your child, go over potential side effects with them on both of those options. They really shouldn't be necessary except in severe cases of colic. Also note that symptoms of colic may also be present with more serious conditions such as bowel obstruction so be sure to see your pediatrician if symptoms do not abate with homeopathic or other treatment.

Symptoms of Colic:
* Excessive burping, gas or gurgling
* Drawing legs up in pain
* Spitting up milk
* Crying excessively or just being very fussy

Homeopathics for colic:
Common homeopathic singles used for colic include Colocynthis, chamomilla, Magnesia Phosphorica, Aethusia, and Bryonia Alba. Because the symptom subset for colic is so specific with each of these remedies, it is suggested that you consult with a homeopath if colic is a chronic issue. The colic symptoms listed above is only a partial list of indications. You may also wish to try a homeopathic blend specifically formulated for easing colic symptoms. Native Remedies has an excellent colic formula called iBaba as well as many good products for both the new mom and the newborn infant.

Colocynthis: The most specific indicator for this one is that you will find that the child's pain is better when you apply firm pressure to abdomen and when warmth is applied. Also, if child vomits easily, Colocynthis may be indicated.

Chamomilla: If the child feels better when carried, that they seem to want things but then reject them when offered, stools may be greenish and they feel worse at night.

Magnesia Phosphorica: If child is noticably weak as if exhausted, and that the burping and gas is quite copious and loud when this remedy is needed. If rubbing helps and firm gentle pressure.

Aethusia: If the child seems to immediately vomit after milk, bringing up large curds and if tense and sensitive to touch. Also, if you notice profuse cold sweat.a

Bryonia Alba: If the child does not want to be carried, is sensitive to sound and light, and is worse from any motion, touch or pressure. Also, if there is a desire for cold drinks.
