Natural Remedies for Bursitis
Bursitis can be agonizingly painful. I had it back in 2014 and finding anything to relieve the pain and swelling proved a bit of a challenge so I'm sharing here what worked for me. However, the first thing I'd mention is that there can be any number of reasons for pain and swelling at the elbow so I'd suggest getting a proper diagnosis to see if it is bursitis that is causing you pain. Bursitis can affect any part of the body that has bursae, which are cushioning fluid-filled sacs. Some common areas are knees, shoulders and of course, elbows.

Some of the conditions which may cause similar symptoms to bursitis include cellulitis, bone infections (also called osteomylitis), rheumatoid arthritis, torn ligaments, fractures, cartilage injury, cellulitis, abcesses, septic arthritis, septic bursitis, bone infections olecranon bursitis (also called popeye elbowI actually think this may be what I have), tennis elbow, gout, lupus. All these conditions present symptoms that can include swelling of the elbow or fluid under the elbow. Whew. Who knew?

Natural Remedies for Bursitis:
1. Traumeel. This is a homeopathic remedy that may be helpful for pain and/or swelling. It did help with my pain.

2. Tumeric (If you are on blood thinners, check with doctor before adding tumeric since it's a natural blood thinner and also anti-inflammatory herb.

3. Salmon Oil (for best ratio of anti-inflammatory omega-3's, choose oil sourced from wild caught salmon).

4. Vitamin C.

5. Myrrh and Lobelia poultices for swelling and pain. Also, can dilute myrrh and lobelia pure essential oils and apply topically.

6. Antivirals. Because bursitis can lead to infection, a conditon known as septic bursitis, you may want to add anti-virals such as pure oregano oil (be sure to dilute before application to prevent burning), a chapparal product called Shegoi, or a multi-herb salve that contains burdock with other anti-virals.

7. Topical cream with arnica montana and MSM. Several available online. For both swelling and pain.

8. Mangosteen juice. Another natural anti-inflammatory. I've had success with pure mangosteen juice for conditions including bursitis. If you can find 100% mangosteen, I'd recommend that rather than a blend.

9. Pure water. Of course, drinking enough good pure water is vital in all cases of inflammation. I often find, when I have a time of pain with joints and muscles, that I have neglected to drink enough water.

Dr. Jame Balch, author of Prescription for Nutritional Healing, suggests Vitamin C, grapeseed extract, turmeric and bromelain as a natural remedy for bursitis.
